athletic, academic, and leadership success throughout the year!
Cal Poly Finishes Up the Regular Season Ranked #1 in the Nation
The Cal Poly Mustangs finished off their best regular season in program history last Saturday with a 17-10
victory over rival Chico State. The Mustangs emerged victorious in the annual “Battle for the Boot” to end the
regular season undefeated (6 – 0) in WCLL divisional play.
The Mustangs went 16 – 1 during the regular season and earned victories over the defending National Champion
BYU Cougars and an overtime victory against the Colorado State Rams on the road in Fort Collins. Cal Poly also
defeated Chapman for the first time since 2007 and knocked off the Oregon Ducks, who ended the Mustangs season
at the national tournament in Denver in 2011.
Cal Poly reached another milestone in 2012 earning their first ever #1 national ranking, as they grabbed the
top spot in the March 27th Nike/Inside Lacrosse MCLA Coaches Poll. The Mustangs’ have held onto the rank ever
since, and head into the playoffs ranked #1 for six straight weeks, including five weeks as the unanimous

UC David Claims 2012 National Collegiate Club Championship with 2-1 Victory Against California Polytechnic State University
No. 5 University of California-Davis won the program's first National Collegiate Club Championship against No. 1

Defending National Champion California Polytechnic State University holds onto the top spot among club teams
as the Mustangs rank at No. 1 in the April 26/Week 13 Women's National Collegiate Club Top 20 Poll.
The 2003, 2004, 2005, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 National Collegiate Club champion, Cal Poly assumed the No. 1
ranking on February 16 from the University of California-Los Angeles. It marks the fifth week in a row the
Mustangs hold the top position by themselves as theUniversity of Michigan had been tied with Cal Poly for
the top position in the March 15 and March 22 balloting.
Cal Poly Takes on Rival Chico State this Saturday at Home
The Cal Poly men's lacrosse team will defend their #1 national ranking this Saturday in the annual
"Battle for the Boot" against divisional rival Chico State. The Mustangs will square off against the
Wildcats on the Upper Sports Complex. Chico State upset the Mustangs last season and the Mustangs
will be looking for a little revenge. Regardless of the outcome of Saturday's contest, the two teams
will be squaring off again in one week in the WCLL semi-finals in Novato, California.
Cal Poly beat Chico State 17-10 to finish 16-1 and seeded #1 going into regional playoffs. Go Mustangs!
Cal Poly Fencing Results at Nationals
Fencing just came back from nationals where women's foil placed 17th and men's epee placed 26th.
These are great results coming from a team who lost a lot of their leaders last year upon graduation.

Cal Poly Reaches #1 in the Latest MCLA National Poll
For the first time in its history, the Cal Poly Men’s Lacrosse team was voted into the #1 spot in the nation
via the Inside Lacrosse MCLA Coaches’ Poll on March 27th. The ranking came after the Mustangs’ trip to Colorado
where they upset Colorado State (undefeated and #1 at the time) in a thrilling overtime game and then finished
with a lopsided victory over SMU.
Fort Collins, CO – The campus of Colorado State University was abuzz on Friday night as #4 Cal Poly came
calling to take on the #1 CSU Rams. In one of the more entertaining and physical games in several years,
the two teams traded runs and battled to the end before Cal Poly finally came out on top with a game-winning
goal by midfielder Peter Chiang with just :15 seconds left in the first overtime period to take a hard fought
9-8 victory over the home squad.
Cal Poly Triathletes compete in their 5th conference race
Cal Poly Triathletes competed in their 5th conference race of the season this past
Sunday, March 4th 2012, at UCLA. Mustangs completed a 400 meter pool swim, 13.5 mile bike and 5 K
run while getting a scenic view of the campus.
This was hands down the most successful race for the team this season, ending with a male and female
athlete on the podium. Scott Kolofer received 3rd place overall in the collegiate men’s division with a
time of 1:02:24 and Brittany Braden placed 3rd as well in the collegiate women’s division, with a time of
1:11:17. Poly also had three men, Scott Kolofer, Connor Sousa, and Kevin Weeks in the top 10 collegiate
men and four women, Taylor Spivey, Kaori Funahashi, Saskia Wright, and Katie Rollins in the top 10
collegiate women. "The race was really fun overall and since I am so new to the team it was a wonderful
experience to represent Cal Poly on the podium," said Kolofer.
This was not only a normal West Coast Collegiate Triathlon Conference race but also a chance for
Mustang athletes to push themselves and compete against their own teammates for coveted spots on
the Nationals team that travels to Tuscaloosa, Alabama in April. The top four previously mentioned men
and women earned a spot for Alabama, with the addition of Brian Polidori for the fifth men’s spot.

CPDST wins first place in the "team match" competition at UCSD Dance by the Shores Ballroom Competition
UCSD Dance by the Shores Ballroom Competition Results:
Cal Poly Dancesport club received first place in the "team match" competition
(where the members of the team get into partners and compete in various dances
against other teams with a compiled average score). They beat out teams from
UCSB, USC, ASU, UCSD, UCR and more! This is the first time they have won this
award in over 5 years!
Cal Poly Rises to #2 in the MCLA National Rankings
The undefeated Cal Poly Mustangs (4 - 0) have reached their highest
ranking in program history, climbing to #2 in the nation in the latest
Inside Lacrosse MCLA Coaches Poll. The Mustangs rise comes after
recent victories over the University of Oregon, California, and the
defending national champion BYU Cougars. BYU fell to the #3 slot in
the latest poll as Oregon and Cal grabbed the #6 and #16 rankings,
respectively.
The Mustangs will have to stay on track in order to hold onto their
lofty ranking as they jump right back into the heart of the MCLA's
toughest schedule with two more ranked opponents on the docket this
week. The Mustangs take on longtime rival #11 UCSB on Wednesday night
at Harder Stadium in Santa Barbara, and then play the #5 ranked Boston
College Eagles in Santa Barbara on Sunday.
Cal Poly Triathlon competed in UC San Diego’s Sprint Triathlon
The race took place Sunday February 19th at Fiesta Island, consisting of a 500 yard swim, 12 mile bike,
and a 5K run on the beach.
The team did very well in the event having two male athletes,
Taro Moberly with a time of 56:01 and Scott Kolofer with a time of 56:06, finish in the top
10 overall Collegiate Male division, and one female athlete, Saskia Wright with a time of 1:04:49,
finish in the top 10 overall Collegiate Female division.
Cal Poly’s top three male athletes were, previously mentioned, Taro Moberley and Scott Kolofer,
who were accompanied by Tanner Stevenson, and the top three female athletes were Saskia Wright,
Leah Stamer, and Jenn Chrislip. “It’s one of my favorite races because it’s a fast course and a
fun atmosphere!” said top finisher Wright. After doing so well at the first major race of the season,
the team is looking forward to participating in more races in upcoming weeks.

Cal Poly triumphs over Cal Berkeley in nail biter!
A healthy crowd at the Cal Poly sports field witnessed a historic win for the Cal Poly Rugby Club as they
tipped 2011 National Champions Cal Berkeley in the final seconds of their match on Saturday. In his first
year of Rugby, Junior inside center Andy Early broke the Cal defensive line and dove for a try that leveled
the scores at 20 a piece with no time left on the clock. Senior flyhalf Matt Verga then kicked the two point
conversion for the win which ended the Cal Bears 63 game winning streak that goes back to the 2009 season
where they lost to BYU in the National Championship game. Funnily enough Cal Poly was the last team to beat
the Bears the time before that, defeating Cal 58-18 back in April 2004.Cal Poly’s next match is against St Mary’s
College in Moraga on the 10th March. This will be Poly’s first match of the 2012 Division 1A season and we encourage
all supporters in the area to come down to cheer on the team.
CPCB wins the Santa Barbara Carnival Classic!
They started with a 3-1 loss to Long Beach State, then
beat Cal 8-2 to win their pool via a tie breaker. They then went on to beat Stanford 5-2 in the semifinals
and took down Cal one more time in the in the Championship with a 3-0 win.

The four-time defending National Collegiate Club Champion returns to the top of
the standings as California Polytechnic State University moves up to No. 1 in the
Week 3/February 16 Women's National Collegiate Club Poll.
Ranked No. 3 last week, the Mustangs reclaim the top position in the national
rankings since rating first in the 2012 Preseason Poll. The The 2003, 2004,
2005, 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 champion, Cal Poly earned all but one first
place vote to tabulate 99 points, three more than the University of
Michigan (96 points) which remains at No. 2.
