Instructions to Graduates
Grads wishing to participate in commencement ceremonies can do so by
signing up at the Grad Center which opens on Thursday, November 19 and is
located in El Corral Bookstore. At the Grad Center students pay the
$50.00 commencement fee, purchase their cap and gown, receive 10 guest
tickets and the "Instructions to Grads" packet which gives all the
information about where to be and when on the day of commencement.
Please be sure to read and follow the information provided in that packet.
Graduates are encouraged to remember that this is a time when the graduating
class and the University are being observed by our most important public:
family, friends and colleagues. Cal Poly students and alumni have a tradition
of good manners and high standards. This ceremony should reflect that tradition.
Alcohol, fireworks, glassware, bottles, weapons, signs and other items that could
contribute to hazardous conditions are not allowed and will be confiscated. Anyone
with items deemed to be unsafe or safety hazards will be ejected from the ceremony.
Because they detract from the ceremony, balloons, balls or blow-up objects of any
kind are prohibited. Enforcement of these provisions will be carried out before and
during the ceremony.
Do not bring friends, relatives and guests to the assembly area prior to commencement.
Rather, to avoid congestion, arrange to meet them afterward at an agreed-upon location,
e.g. at the reception, but not inside or immediately outside of the
gym.
