What is WOW?
The Week of Welcome is an opportunity for local businesses, on-campus resources, and the
community as a whole to promote themselves to new students. On the other hand, new students
are introduced to the community in a way that encourages them to respect the existing
institution and culture, while still taking ownership during their time at Cal Poly. New
students undergo a variety of activities during the week that include a day in downtown SLO,
campus resource tours, an awareness faire, a day with their academic college and major, a
community service event, and a ‘block party’ that showcases on-campus clubs and
organizations.

SLO Bound (local businesses)
Tuesday, September 16, 2008
WOW offers a unique opportunity for new students to get to know the San Luis Obispo
downtown area. Dozens of SLO businesses have cooperated to welcome WOWies into SLO’s business
district. The event starts off with a barbecue at Mitchell Park. WOW groups then venture into
participating businesses before finishing up by meeting more businesses in a carnival-like
setting at Mission Plaza. This is a great way to publicize your business to new students, and
make them aware of your services. For a
summary of all business participation options, please see
2008 Sponsorship
& Participation Brochure.
To sign up as a sponsor or free participating business, please
