National days of Service are large scale national events where hundreds of volunteers gather to help better the world through direct service to their community. These events are great for groups because the planning is already done, but lots of volunteers are needed!

* Make a Difference Day (MADD) - October
* Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service - January
* Cesar Chavez Day of Service - April

Make a new friend by being paired up with an adult who has a developmental disability and spend time doing activities with them during the school year.

Time Commitment: One large event each month with all the volunteers and their Best Friends together; commitment after that is subjective, but at minimum, volunteers should contact their Best Friends once a week.

Volunteer at shelters with adults and children of the local homeless community and help raise awareness through See the Need Week and Homelessness Awareness Week.

Time Commitment: There is usually a few small events every week at the shelter, but you choose your time commitment; also a few big events each month.

Help beautify the environment through action, awareness and activities such as beach cleanups, tree planting and Earth Day.

Time Commitment: A variety of monthly events.

Do you know a second language or would you like to learn one? If so, join us in teaching children at local elementary schools about different languages and cultures around the world.

Time Commitment: Volunteers visit classes on a regular basis, but you choose your time commitments. One big event each quarter.

Bring the joy of companionship to animals by spending time with them at local shelters, raising awareness of animal rights and raising funds for animal protection efforts.

Time Commitment: Once you've gone through orientation you can volunteer at Wood's whenever you want; also one to two main events each month.

Join us in promoting world peace and human rights through fundraising events, film screenings, education workshops, advocacy and more.

Time Commitment: A few big events and fundraisers each month.

Be a friend and enrich the lives of senior citizens at local senior homes through visits, dances and game nights.

Time Commitment: A few big events each month.

Make lives healthier and happier for children and senior citizens through exercise, nutrition and health education activities.

Time Commitment: A few big events each month.

Be a mentor to a local at-risk youth and provide them with the motivation and tools needed to succeed in life.

Time Commitment: Varies depending on which programs you are involved with, can be a lot or a little, whichever you prefer.

Enhance a child’s life through local after school tutoring programs, cultural craft fairs and recreational activities for low-income youth. Be a friend and role model by playing games and hanging out with local foster youth.

Time Commitment: Tutoring goes on 4 days a week, but you choose your time commitment; also a few big events each month.
